O’Connell Street is the Foothills’ number one Irish/Celtic band. With a repertoire reaching from traditional ballads, reels, and jigs to covers of tunes by the Pogues, Flogging Molly, David Gray, and the Dropkick Murphys, O’Connell Street puts its own, original spin on everything it plays. The band is fronted by native Dubliner, John O’Connell on lead vocals, guitar, and whistle. On fiddle and featured vocalist on several songs is Jenny Rutherford. Multi-instrumentalist Rob Scholnick’s work on mandolin and tenor banjo clears a melodic sweet spot for the band, while Neil Bleiweis on cajon and bodhran and Dave Speigelberg on bass keep things moving as a flawless rhythm section, even when Dave takes lead vocals on songs like “Mick Ryan’s Lament” or “Molly Malone.”
Known for its spot on harmonies and tight arrangements, O’Connell Street is a guaranteed good time whether you are an aficionado of Irish and Celtic music or an absolute novice. Before the evening is out, you not only will be tapping your toes and singing along, you may well be up on your feet dancing a jig!
